Black Bears:

Our area here in the Swan Valley offers some of the best bear hunting in the entire state. These hunts test both your stamina and your stalking abilities since we can not use bait or hounds.

We will pre-scout during mid April before your arrival looking for those lumbering bruins trying to fill up their empty bellies after the long winter hibernation.

At this time of year, the Bears are emerging from hibernation and can be seen on the lower slopes below the snow capped peaks. Because of the high mountain deep snow the Bears are forced to feed between the valley bottoms and the snow line.

Our hunts will take place the latter part of April and the entire month of May. We will glass southern slopes, clear-cuts, logging roads, avalanche slides and valley bottoms where Bears can be found feeding on spring grasses, buds, grubs and winter kills. Once we have one located we will either ride horses to get closer or put on a careful stalk.

We have some excellent areas that we can horseback up to also that allows us to get after the big boys. We have about 60% color phase. Mid day you may find yourself doing some fishing in one of our many alpine streams.
